nonmotorbiker22-Apr-2007yamahaa 250 , is a young man complaining legiimately abouit the lack of facilities for ths "Bikers"unfortunately he is probably a user of the niddrie bing , A protected peice of History being completely spoilt by ignorance, Hopetoun have recently place signs prohibiting access at a great deal of cost , only for these to be torn down and destroyed by the bikers using the Field/bing opposite Corecut, I would suggest that the police see if the bing at Philipstoun could be secured for bikers to use ??,
peternisbet22-Apr-2007I would like to saee some update on the "DUMP" site , "Auld Cathie", It seems the wheels grind extremely slowly , I'm sure if the will was there this would be the first tangible evidence of what is going to take place in this village, lets see this "dump returned to usable land ASAP and give the village it's deserved first change /cleanup
ExResident07-Nov-2006As a former long term resident of winchburgh i was initially impressed with the proposals but as usual a lot of the real information is being held back from the general public. Locals are all aware that the area is heavily mined, the M9 when it was built down at the Beatlie Road had to be "moved" after a couple of ex miners informed the "expert consultants" that it was over a mine shaft. It was subsequently moved further to the north than was originally intended. Have the "experts" taken this into consideration with their plans, we'll see. How do they intend to hide the sights and smells eminatting from the Auld Cathie landfill site or dump as it is referred to locally. One of the reasons I moved was this eyesore. As for the proposed rail station. The tunnel has for many years been an area of flooding due to the claypit in particular. British Rail or ScotRail have made it very clear in the past that they are in favour of closing this tunnel and re routing trains through Dalmeny. Have they suddenly changed their minds on the chance of making a few extra quid on fares from the residents. Last time they were approached the figure of £250,000.00 was given for the annual upkeep of the tunnel. How many weekly tickets is this going to take to break even? Caroline mentioned the policing of the village "small town" once all the houses are built, will their be a station, i doubt it. Linlithgow doesn't have one so why would they put one in Winchburgh. I really hope some of the plans come to fruition, it is about time money was spent on my village, hopefully locals will benefit both in employment and business functions during the build. It will not matter where I am living in the world, I will always be a Winchburgh bairn.
+fionataylor29-Oct-2006notice you have Glass Road as Glass Street in the image gallery, might seem trivial but it won't to the people that live there
yamaha25024-Aug-2006i think that the police are not letting us people ride on the bings with motorbikes and its unfair,i think the council should build a motorcycle track this will prevent people getting in troubble with the law.Building a motorcycle track would be a big step and would help keep people running the streets on their bikes causing havok. If the council or comunities could look into this project i think it would be a good investment and could bring other motorcyclists to the area and would help people from winchburgh interact with other comunities.
juliemeek21-Feb-2006Since moving here in Feb 05 I have found the people very friendly and chatty. Although this is a very close knit village I have found no problems getting to know people as yet.Having the new development in the future wont affect me as much as some of the older generation of the village who may have lived here for many many years.I see it as a good thing for potential jobs etc ,where as the older folks might see it as there small village turning into a small town whitch might bring with it more trouble from youngsters hanging around in the new town centre
Caroline Dryden21-Nov-2005Having just moved to Winchburgh in July 2005 I am very interested to find out how this project is moving along. Submitting comments is all very well but answers to the comments and queries are required if this idea is to have any substance. In the 4 months I have lived in Winchburgh I have heard nothing about the progress of the planned project and this is concerning. Updates/Feedback on where the project is at present is required.
peternisbet20-Nov-2005I am Interested in how this future development is moving along ? can anyone advise please. I am extremely exited about the benefits of this project! in particular the exciting job prospects for large numbers of local people and thus the economic benefits to this part of West lothian
LocalResident01-Sep-2005The comments made by David Fitzcharles are very relevant. The area doesn't seem suitable for building because of mining and tipping. The loss of so much countryside will effect us all. What is really going to happen about the rail link and the motorway junction? The whole scheme seems to have been imposed on us. Once the village becomes a town, New Winchburgh will just continue to grow and grow as a commuter area.
DavidSmith30-Jun-2005I have to say as a resident of the "old" Broxburn I am jealous of the plans I see. A complete, integrated plan for development of our town may have prevented the random developments we have and help us maintain a sense of community. The sketches look fantastic as did the exhibition I looked around. All the best.
DavidFitzcharles30-Jun-2005These plans are very different from the ones that everybody in the village received by post. Will all the residents who don't have internet access be able to view the new plans and forward their comments. When I bought my house in Tippet Knowes, on the survey, I was warned that Winchburgh is built on top of a maze of disused mines, and the field where your town centre is go, their are major oil pipe lines, what is to happen, as you can't build on top of these pipes, and what happens to the disused mines that could collapse, also the gasses from the rubbish tip that will develop over the next twenty years i.e. gas explosions caused by a built of of gasses under current new houses, also subsidence i.e. the delay in the continuation of the tram line past Edinburgh airport, because the ground is to soft to built a tunnel under the runway, it's the same type of soil in Winchburgh. I feel also local residents should be made aware more of the negative aspects such as increased congestion, most people would be unable to work in the local area, and for the forseeable future communiting is a part of life. Public transport is not an option for a lot of people, due to the aspects of their job. Also we hear that housing demand is starting to drop, where is the evidence that such a large number of housing is required? How does this housing complex work into the new planned runway at the airport? Broxburn has trippled in size, Kirliston, Queensferry all have and are still increasing in size, how much more countryside should be taken away from us. For the first time in decades we have seen an increase in wildlife in the canal, increased birds of prey (their nests in the forrests that are not part of your current plans), wildlife thrives in natural surroundings, not made up park land for recreational purposes. I have also researched about the new transport plans, already the rail lines around the village can't cope with anymore traffic, where is their evidence that a rail station has ever been considered to be built in the village, also a new slip road from the motorway, I fail to find any evidence of research, made publically. Access to fire stations and ambulances are very poor and the physical scars can be seen in the village. I feel the local residents should be made aware of all the facts, before the development goes ahead.
MrHope17-Jun-2005Looks like a really good idea for regenerating the community
JohnWayne03-Jun-2005Is anybody from this website reading these comments because it would be nice for a response to some of the questions
peternisbet27-May-2005With ref to the "proposed" link roads which would appear to be a "Council matter" is there any info on where they will be sited ? particularly to the south of Craigton place?
PrivateFraser21-May-2005Were all doomed i tell you... doomed. Were doomed.
Caroline Crawford18-May-2005What facilities are to be put in place for policeing this new town development? Are we to get our own police station which we could be doing with NOW due to the mob and vandalisam that is occurring at the moment. People are afraid to go out at nights. What will it be like when all these new proposed houses are built.
MRSMITH18-May-2005What plan's are there for the site the current health centre is located on. This is assuming a new health centre will be built.
PeterKershaw18-May-2005How can we believe the wish for consultation is genuine when the reports saved on the site are disabled for printing?
GwendolineRoberts16-May-2005I would like to ask if there are any plans to change the 2 original blocks of flats at the back of Glendevon Park in Winchburgh? Since moving here 2 years ago I have found it to be housing some extremely friendly people who are very community spirited and very neighbourly, however, the general view of people living here by some of the other residents of Winchburgh seems to be somewhat clouded by the derilict look of the two blocks and it seems to be a blot on the landscape of the otherwise picturesque village. I do realise that they are situated at the far end of the village geograhpically as if they were more central I am sure they would have been re-developed before now but other than being an eyesore they do give off a certain pre-assumed view of the people they house albeit an incorrect one. I myself admit to being no different in my initial assumptions when offered housing here by wlc. I found it quite telling that in your 'image gallery' on this site the view of Glendevon Park and Glass Road showed the road right up to the corner of where it leads to these two blocks - which again confirmed my view of the unworthyness of these apartments. So my question is whilst I wholeheartly support any development to expand the village and encourage growth in housing, retail, travel links and employment especially to the level which is proposed - are there any plans to knock down and rebuild this area to conform with the sleek now look of the buildings which will dominate our village ?? To me it seems like an ideal opportunity!!
